Defending the FBI
Not something this late 1970’s UC Santa Cruz political dissenter ever expected to do

The conundrum
So here’s the conundrum. First off, conundrum is a great fricken word and we are proud to have called it to your attention. Second, we are a highly trained journalist, which means as part of our training, we were indoctrinated to report facts without bias or personal point of view. Third, the Wrap has never suggested or pretended to be unbiased. This is a distinctly left of center point of view we represent here - more akin to an op-ed than a journalistic narrative. For fun we’ve added snark, cynicism and sarchasm into the mix.
FYI, sar-chasm represents the distance between what we think is funny, and what audiences are able to understand as a disingenuous representation of what we actually mean. Fourth, we just want wanted there to be a fourth thing, Mission accomplished.
Owing to our post graduate education at an admittedly liberal elitist institution, it pains us to be overtly and publicly opinionated as we are. We can endure this pain point, however, by calling it out to you. You’ve either subscribed or been invited to subscribe to the Wrap because we know you to be somewhere close to our political sensibility.
For a few others who are subscribed, this is not the case at all but you endure us to learn about how we see things, even if you disagree, which we applaud. We happen to be tapped into a great many right of center news sources, newsletters and social media threads in an honest effort to better understand how how folks we don’t agree with can be so wrong about so many things.
Most Wrap-ees are probably further left of us. They are downright unapologetic far-left progressives. We aspire to moderate their sensibility - to suggest we can do more together without entirely alienating middle America and deeply Christian America. Not that middle American or deeply Christian America is making any kind of equal or reciprocal endeavor. Such is the state of the state.
All of which leads to this self admission about current events, and lets not mince words, ok?: The best way to deal with personal bias is to disclose it up front, call it what it is, and announce it to all. We are praying, hoping and cheering - the same way we cheer for the Warriors, the Giants and the 49ers - for Donald Trump to go to jail, his business empire to be ruined, his political future destroyed and his family name to go down ignominiously. Period. End of story. Done. No more words needed. Not one. Not. One.
Assessing the raid
More than a year ago, the National Archives and Records Administration made entreaties of 45 to return classified records reported to have been taken to Mar-A-Largo where they could not be properly protected, and which represent security risks to the US of A. They issued requests, negotiated with Trump attorneys for access, retrieved partial records, and yet continued to show that important classified records were not returned in accordance with the Presidential Records Act.
Why? For what purpose were these records withheld? We await answers to these crucial questions. More importantly, why do Trump suckwads just accept without question that the FBI’s raid constitutes an unjustifiable, politically motivated partisan attack on the former president, when there is no evidence to support such allegations?
Such is the state of the state.
Fox News and aligned conservative commentators are apoplectic over what they allege to be an unprecedented, politically motivated partisan “witch hunt” to damage a future presidential candidate. Apoplectic, like conundrum, represents multi-syllabic words we are proud to feature in a Wrap.
What would Dobby say?
As promised in a prior Wrap, we take this topic of inquiry through our most trusted advisor on all things controversial and political, our 35-lb brindle pit-bull-dachshund mix, Dobby. He has a keen - if somewhat narcissistic - POV where national politics are concerned.
Wrap: “So how do you read all the hubbub around the FBI raid on Mar-A-Logo to secure presidential records?”
Dobby: “Does Trump have a dog?”
Wrap: “We don’t believe so.”
Dobby: “Then I don’t like him. Obama had a Portuguese Water Dog, which lent him some credibility.”
Wrap: “Ok, be that as it may, what’s your take on this FBI search of Trump’s home in Mar-A-Lago?”
Dobby: “Were there any police dogs used when in the search?”
Wrap: “Not that we are aware of.”
Dobby: “Than I have no faith in that search. How did it smell?”
Wrap: “Can’t answer that.”
Dobby: Without smell, the whole thing stinks to high heaven.
Wrap: “We are told a judge agreed there was probable cause to justify the search warrant.”
Dobby: “Did the judge have a dog?”
Wrap: “Can’t say.”
Dobby: “Then neither can I.”
So there you have it. It’s a dog eat dog world. And our dog won’t dog on a former president without canine representation.
An that’s your Wrap.

You are wise to consult with Dobby. Dobby, like all dog, cuts through the bullshit and gives his energies to the things that truly matter, and ignores the rest. I wish to be more like Dobby, although I don't have a tail and prefer to live upright on only my back legs.
Exactly how many responses did you get that barked at you with the message that "You are barking up the wrong tree" ? To the best of your knowledge could any of those responses been from Trump's undisclosed dog(s) ?
